At What Temperature Should I Stop Using The Pond Pump?
ByWe invested in a pond pump in late spring as the house we just moved into had a pond that was dying. The water is now clearer and the fish are healthier. Just not sure when we should stop using the pump – winter is just around the corner and any info would be gratefully received. Thanks.

It may depend on your climate zone and the size of the pond. I have a small tub pond, prolly 30 inches tall by 34 wide. I leave the pump on til we get a really hard freeze. Then it seems cruel to be pumping the warmth out of the water and I turn it off.
Generally, I only have a few days where the pond is frozen over totally. Somehow the fish live; one of my goldfish lived for 10 years.
I live in Virginia.
